Welcome to the Nentir Vale - A Quick Overview of the Planned Campaign

It's time, time for my kids, their friends, and their cousins to be introduced to the joys of D&D and, more particularly, to my preferred version which is 4th Edition.

I'm normally a Forgotten Realms guy (Midgard is also on my radar) but I thought there was a simplicity to the Nentir Vale that would better suit new gamers (or g4mers?).

I want to go back to the classics. While 1E's Temple of Elemental Evil was the end of me running large dungeons for decades (I ran it when it was first published), I do like the themes, especially after they have been developed further in 3.xE and 4E.

(I don't rate Gygax as an author or designer, and the lost opportunities of T1-4 are a big part of that.)

My BBEG, for the Heroic Tier at least, will be Lareth the Beautiful. I love this artwork from the late 3.xE-era. I also spent a bit of money on a mini of Lareth more than a decade ago so it will feel good to finally use it.

The other two will be his lieutenants and in charge of other factions in this campaign.

If the campaign continues into the Paragon Tier, despite my dislike of Gygax as an author and designer, I am planning on a journey into the Underdark heavily inspired by the D Series - Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Shrine of the Kuo-toa, and Vault of the Drow. I might even begin with some giants....
